The sand dam is located in Kavati/Nthangu village in Wote/Nziu Ward, Makueni sub county. It was funded by Sand Authority in the financial year 2019/2020. It is constructed across Kaiti river which joins Thwake River and then Athi at the lower point. The sand dam serves Wote town and the neighboring community. The sand dam has a storage capacity of 34,390m³.
